From bingo to arts and crafts, there are many elderly activities for our care home residents to get involved in and enjoy on a day to day basis. Activities like these are incredibly important for residents mental health, care home staff and visitors alike. For the friends and families of care home residents, it can be a huge comfort to see their loved ones enjoying their time and socialising during care home activities, and for our care home professionals it can be a great way to develop relationships with the residents and get to know them a little better.

The greatest benefits, however, are undoubtedly enjoyed by the residents themselves. Care home activities & entertainment for all our residents is essential to a positive care experience for a variety of reasons, which we at Avon Park Care Home discuss here:

Having fun

Above all, we encourage residents to have fun! A wide variety of games and activities ensure that everyone living at Avon Park begins and ends the day with a smile on their face. From movie nights to live music shows, there’s no end to the list of fun activities that are enjoyed by our care home professionals and residents alike.

Creating structured days

As we all know, having a daily routine can give us a sense of purpose and structure to our day not to mention the benefits it has for health and mental wellbeing. This is just one of the reasons why fun activities in residential homes are essential for personal identities. Having a timetable of games and activities gives our residents a structure to their days and something to look forward to every morning.

Maintaining routine

From walking the dog to trips to the local garden centre, routine is important to all of us. Fortunately, by organising lots of different games and activities on a day to day basis, we can help our residents maintain the very same routines they established before moving to Avon Park Care Home. These may include cooking, gardening, exercising to music, and enjoying lunch in a local pub with the local community.

Socialising with others

Feeling lonely can be extremely disheartening, which is why spending time with our friends and family and maintaining existing relationships is absolutely essential to our happiness and mental wellbeing. A varied list of entertainment group activities gives all residents the opportunity to socialise with everyone else living or working at Avon Park, and the chance to make truly valuable friendships.

Staying active

Exercising to music, gardening and taking shopping trips are just three activities that help everyone living in care stay active. Regular, gentle exercise can have many benefits, from keeping our muscles strong to boosting our mood, while helping residents maintain their independence.

At Avon Park Care Home, a well-established residential home in Southampton, it is of the utmost importance that our residents have ample opportunity to socialise, stay active, and maintain their independence. That’s why we offer a wide and varied range of exercise classes & activities for everyone living and working here to enjoy.
